Food Bank Drive 2020

A big shout out to everyone at Avena Foods who shared their time and resources to generously collect and donate to the company’s annual Fall Food Drive, raising food and donations totaling hundreds of meals to the Portage, Man. Salvation Army and the Regina Food Bank and making life a little easier for hungry neighbors.

“It’s important and generous of you to support people in need in our communities, especially when there are so many suffering now in comparison with those of us in our industry,” Avena CEO Gord Flaten told employees. “The Regina cash donation alone will provide over 855 meals,” he said.

In the month-long campaign, individuals donated a combined total of more than 100 pounds of food and over $500 in cash.

“Thank you!  You have made a real difference in the lives of the people in our community,” the Regina Food bank stated in a letter to Avena.

“You made our day!  We can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support of our work to eliminate hunger and food insecurity in Regina,” continued the letter from the food bank. “We have seen unprecedented need in our city and have launched a Million Meal Challenge to try to ensure we can meet the demand.  You are now a champion in our march to a million.”

A matching gift from The Mosaic Company to all donations made in October effectively doubled the donations, allowing the food bank to provide twice as many meals to those in need.

The food drive is one of several annual employee driven charity events at Avena, in addition to corporate donations and personal donations made outside the workplace.

“Thanks for making our corner of the world better!” Flaten said.
