August 28th, 2019 (REGINA) – A video is being released today of Avena Foods Limited’s recent ‘Customer and Farmer Appreciation Day’, celebrating safe, healthy, sustainable oat and pulse ingredients from the farm gate to your plate.
The Avena Foods community – farmers, customers, industry representatives, and Avena staff – spent the day together north of Regina, Saskatchewan on August 1st, 2019. In the morning they toured Cody and Sheena Ermel’s organic farm in Bethune, Saskatchewan, and after a hearty lunch afternoon was spent viewing test plots and equipment at RoLo Farms/Condie Seed. Farmers Cody Ermel, and Roy, Dustin and Tyler Klym shared their own experience of farming gluten-free oats and pulses.
At lunch, Avena Foods’ first ever appreciation award was made to Shelley Case, international celiac and gluten-free expert, consulting dietitian, and author Gluten-Free: The Definitive Resource Guide. The award acknowledges Shelley’s contribution to the development of safe, gluten-free oat protocols and regulatory standards, and her ability to bring together members of the community for the health and safety of people with celiac disease.
